Outsource Offshore Event

The Outsource Offshore event held at The Leveson Hotel last March 10, 2011 was a success.

The ‘no spin, no hype and definitely no PowerPoint’ discussion delved on opportunities and issues around outsourcing.  Among the questions that Pete and the other panelists touched on were:

  • What online tools are available?
  • What do you need to consider when making the outsource offshore decision?
  • How do you find the right people for everyday support and build a relationship?
  • How do you effectively spec a website when you are a marketer, not an IT project manager?
  • What are the real costs and are there productivity gains?
  • How do you integrate this into the rest of your business?
  • What are the success stories and what are the traps?

The event was organised by The Churchill Club, a social venture that seeks to improve Victorian capabilities around technology entrepreneurship.

Pete at The Churchill Club’s Outsource Offshore Event

Pete will be among the panelists at The Churchill Club’s Outsource Offshore event on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at The Leveson in North Melbourne.

Outsource Offshore

Business such as Rentacoder, eLance and Odesk have enabled those in the know to dramatically change
their profitability and risk profile by outsourcing tasks offshore.  Whether its having your own personal
assistant and clerical staff in India, or having software engineers and designers in Russia,  offshore support
is only a mouse click away.  But is it as easy as simply knocking a quick spec to have a website concept
created for $200, or are their a brand new set of skills you need to have and risks you need to manage
if you take this path.

“Going Pro” The Melbourne Challenge Conference

Pete will be speaking at Ed Dale’s The Melbourne Challenge Conference on February 25, 26 and 27 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Going Pro – has ZERO to do with the time you spend working on the business. Josh Bretag, a mentoring student of mine this year went pro – working as a trainee chef. He translated 5 spare 30 minute sessions a week into $80,000 worth of contracts by last week – Josh went PRO, by being SMART about his time, not working long hours.

I’ve asked him to come and speak at this conference to tell you how he did it and what he learned.

In Fact, this is what I realised sitting up the back of the room in London. You want to see examples of real working businesses in real areas. You’ve tested a niche, what’s next?
